Bring traditional sourdough flavor to your culinary creations! This convenient starter is made by combining organic white wheat flour with live, active sourdough cultures. It is allowed to ferment -- just like a traditional starter -- and is then dehydrated. Simply activate it by mixing with water and additional flour and in just a few days it will become an active and bubbly starter, ready to use in breads, muffins, pancakes, waffles -- anywhere you want that signature tangy flavor and aroma. The leftover starter can be kept alive and reused indefinitely with regular care and feeding, just as homesteaders have done for generations. Includes 2 tablespoons of dehydrated starter and instructions. Made by a small, family-owned business based in California.

To activate the sourdough starter:
  • Pour the dehydrated starter into a glass jar or bowl. Add 2 Tbsp. filtered water and stir for about a minute, then allow it to sit at room temperature for 1 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  • Add 1 heaping Tbsp. of flour and mix completely. Let sit at room temperature for 8-12 hours.
  • Continue feeding: Add 1/4 cup filtered water and 1/4 cup flour and mix completely. Let sit for another 8-12 hours.
  • Repeat step #3 at least once a day (or twice daily, morning and night). Your starter will be ready to use once you have noticed it doubling in size, usually 2-4 days. (For more information, visit https://shesrootedhome.com/activate/)
