“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”
About Lindy
Hi, I'm Lindy Elston, the creator behind Lindy's Field Notes. I was raised as the fourth generation on my family's Pennsylvania farm, where I learned firsthand the value of hard work, faith, and self-sufficiency. While our farm primarily boarded dairy heifers for local farmers, I grew up surrounded by the traditions of gardening, hunting, raising livestock, and food preservation. Generations of canners on both sides of my family passed down skills and knowledge that many people today no longer have access to, and those experiences shaped the life I live today.
My husband and I now live on our own homestead, surrounded by family and blessed with access to more than 100 acres of farmland and woods. We raise goats, chickens, and dogs, grow food, preserve the harvest, and fill our freezer through hunting. Deer season is more than a hobby for us, it's an important part of how we provide food for our family and continue traditions that bring generations together around the work of butchering, processing, and sharing the harvest.
I started raising goats in 2012 and have spent more than 14 years learning, often through trial and error because I didn't have a mentor to guide me. My own experiences navigating challenges, making mistakes, and figuring things out along the way gave me a deep appreciation for having someone to turn to when questions arise.
In the fall of 2024, I felt God calling me to share these skills with others. That calling led me to launch Lindy's Field Notes on January 1, 2025. What began as a simple desire to help people learn practical skills has grown into a community centered around canning, food preservation, goat care, gardening, hunting, and self-reliant living.
My mission is simple: to help others gain the confidence to do more for themselves and their families. I believe many of the skills our grandparents and great-grandparents considered everyday knowledge are becoming harder to find, yet they are more valuable than ever. Through education, encouragement, and real-life experience, I hope to show others that self-sufficiency doesn't require perfection. It starts with a willingness to learn, a commitment to keep trying, and the confidence to do what works for your family. If I can help someone preserve their first jar of food, raise their first healthy goat, or take one more step toward a simpler and more fulfilling life, then I'm accomplishing exactly what I set out to do.
